DETROIT, MI: Eric’s mother had turned the television into an aquarium, then changed her mind and painted it, a portrait of Benjamin Franklin. Neon tetras and black mollies floated over the Founding Father’s head in a way, she told Eric, she much preferred to the talk shows. “There’s nothing to say about the Judge Olio program,” she said, “but I could talk about Franklin and his fish with anyone, for hours,” and that’s what they did.
