This weekend is Big Sunday! If you live in the Los Angeles area (anywhere from San Diego to Ventura County), there are literally hundreds of volunteer projects happening this Saturday AND Sunday that need your help. Check the list of events here and sign up for your favorites!
The experiences are pretty remarkable. Last year I interviewed a homeless woman on Skid Row, and two years ago I helped clean up a local high school and an animal shelter.
Here are some of the projects that stand out this year (that still need volunteers):
- #109 - Clean up Zuma Beach (the beach? in Malibu? yes please.)
- #133 - Pig out in Solvang (sure it’s a drive, but pigs are fun! swine flu not included.)
- #151 - Catch the wave at The Seva Cafe (cook at a volunteer-run, vegetarian restaurant in Long Beach)
- #152 - Make a new old friend in Glendale (bring along a deck of cards and hang out seniors at this retirement home)
- #472 - Beautify a hiking trail in Altadena (one of my favorite hikes. there’s even a gold mine nearby!)
- #524 - Bingo breakfast at the Farmer’s Market with special friends (did someone say Bingo? I’m in.)
Check out the full list of projects and tell your friends about it!
